The Abel Symposium 2004

Nearly 40 top mathematicians gathered in Oslo for the first Abel Symposium. The theme of the symposium was Operator Algebras in a wide sense. The symposium was dedicated to the memory of Gert Kjærgaard Pedersen, the pater familias of operator algebraists in Denmark, who died 15 March 2004.

The Board of the Niels Henrik Abel Memorial Fund established the Abel Symposium as an annual event. The intention is to establish a meeting place at the highest scientific level in the field of mathematics. The Abel Symposium is administrated by the Norwegian Mathematical Society. The Abel Symposium 2004 was organized by a committee headed by Professor Ola Bratteli, University of Oslo.
