Jacques Tits

Professor Emeritus, Collège de France

"for their profound achievements in algebra and in particular for shaping modern group theory"

The Abel Laureates John Griggs Thompson and Jacques Tits gave their prize lectures at the University of Oslo. The invited speakers were Michel Broué and Alex Lubotzky.

The Abel Prize Award Ceremony

His Majesty King Harald presented the Abel Prize for 2008 to the two mathematicians, John Griggs Thompson of the USA and Jacques Tits of France.
